As you know, the Internet changes all the time. Websites disappear without warning, new ones pop every day. This curated list (current as of September 2016) is a good place to start. Got a recommendation? Please email Paul Young <pyoung@parkland.edu>.

Creating PDFs for different purposes require different technical considerations. Fortunately, Adobe has presets that make it easier for designers to prepare PDFs. These presets can be accessed from Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign but you'll find the menu command in different locations:
Photoshop: file > save as (format=Photoshop PDF)
    Illustrator: file > save as
InDesign: file > adobe PDF export
Photoshop: file > save as (format=Photoshop PDF)
Regardless of how you access the PDF export dialog box, you'll have access to these two presets which designers will find most useful:
Smallest File Size: This type of PDF is usually emailed to the client, so file size is a consideration. However, attaching large files to email messages is not good etiquette. So if this preset produces a PDF much larger than 1MB, consider using Dropbox, Google drive or another file sharing service to deliver the file. Note: This preset will convert all CMYK images to RGB which is fine for onscreen previews.

Start by registering your domain name with one of the above companies. One of the benefits of registering your own domain name is to be able to set up a permanent email address (i.e. jane@yourname.com). Most people prefer to have their permanent email forwarded to their existing account (or set up a new Gmail account to manage multiple email accounts).
Tip: As soon as you have your own permanent email address, you should start sending all email from this address in order to promote your domain name. Adding a signature to all your emails will also help.

You only need to follow this procedure once at the beginning of the semester. If you forget you Netshare password and need it reset, please contact the Tech Service Desk.
Tip: Once your personal Netshare drive is visible on the desktop, you should also add it as a "favorite" so that you can access your files easier from within applications (you will need to do again if you move to another computer or another room).

Each student enrolled in a class that uses a Fine & Applied Arts Macintosh Studio ( C184 | D017 | D019 ) will be assigned a personal Netshare account (i.e. "faa001") where you can store your files. This account will be active for one semester only. All Netshare accounts will be deleted at the end of the semester, so students are strongly advised to backup their files.
To access your Netshare drive, simply double-click the Netshare icon (i.e. "faa001") on the desktop. If the Netshare icon is missing, simply logout and log back in.

Our studios have 20 iMacs with the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud installed. Here is a basic overview of how the lab works:
Key Card Entry. All students who have registered for a class in C184, D017, D019 will be able to enter the Studio by swiping their current Parkland ID. Key Card entry is a privilege that can be revoked at any time (see Lab Policies). If your key card does not work, please talk to your instructor or consult the Key Card Guide.

related to Parkland. If you forget you Netshare password and need it reset, please contact the Tech Service Desk.Parkland (more info).
Logging out. After each session, you MUST logout (Apple Menu > Logout). If you fail to logout, other students may have access to your files. Logging out is preferred as it is faster than restarting.
Saving files. We recommend saving files to the "NetShare" network drive (a.k.a "Nemo"). Your personal password-protected "Netshare" account (i.e. "faa001") is automatically linked to your "Netshare" login. You will need only one "NetShare" account for the semester to use any Mac workstation in C184, D017, D019 (you do NOT need a separate account for each class). Your Netshare account is good for one semester only, so please remember to backup your files at the end of every semester.
